We are often asked what kinds of diagnoses are treated at Red River Youth Academy. Our residential treatment program focuses on working with adolescent males who struggle with anger, aggression, and defiance – behaviors that are symptoms of underlying causes common with diagnoses such as:
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Intermittent Explosive Disorder
- Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
- Reactive Attachment Disorder
- Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
- Anxiety Disorders
- Depressive Disorders
Red River Youth Academy’s treatment program centers on cognitive-behavioral therapy and directing youth to be the chief change agent in their treatment. Staff are trained in trauma-responsive care in order to understand and respond to the needs behind residents’ presenting symptoms.
The residential program incorporates self-evaluation, role modeling, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, life-skills training, and formal education to help youth establish control over their behavior and improve their decision making skills. Residents are given the opportunity to develop functional life skills through observing and modeling pro-social behaviors to replace dysfunctional patterns of behavior learned through past experiences.
In the coming weeks, we will share additional information about specific behavioral and emotional disorders in adolescents.
